Despite Our "Resume", God Will Use Us 2016.11.13
I was talking to a friend last night who struggles "good things" - God's love, happiness, the gift of salvation... Unfortunately, I know a few people who have this struggle, and I'm afraid that there are probably many more, but maybe nowhere near that level of intensity. The devil has us at his beckon call, where all he needs to do whisper a half-truth in our ear, and we ourselves begin the downward spiral of insecurity.
But the devil is the ultimate liar, and God's Word tells us how much we are loved by God. So much so, that we are to be used in His Plan. We will make mistakes, we will fail at things, and we will sin. But God's love & purpose for us will never wain.
Look at King Solomon - He had wisdom, wealth, fame & power. Solomon was given a mind like no other by God.
I will do what you have asked. I will give you a wise and discerning heart, so that there will never have been anyone like you, nor will there ever be.

And yet, Solomon turned away from God [1 Kings 11:4,9-12]. A level of wisdom the world has never seen, and will never see again, couldn't guarantee fidelity, a wandering heart. or obedience. (don't get me wrong: wisdom is important. If we lack wisdom, we should ask God for it [James 1:5])
In the eyes of God, what we've accomplished doesn't truly count for much - God isn't impressed with your college degree, and not turned away if you don't have one, personable or not, rich or poor, leadership qualities or none, good-looking or unattractive, secure or insecure... All of these mean little because God knows ultimate level of all of these things, so He's not impressed or turned away with any of us. (hold on, there's a point that i'm trying to get to...)
Look back at all of the accounts in the Bible... God uses the smallest person, the most unlikely candidate, for His Purpose.
26Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. 27But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. 28God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, 29so that no one may boast before him.
1 Corinthians 1:26-29 |
God can & will use you irregardless of what your resume says. He wants to use those who look away from their self-sufficiency to His All sufficiency. God will use those humbled before the cross, those who boast & brag in Him.
God uses the unlikely for His glorious purposes to show His superior power. So for those who struggle as mentioned in the beginning, do not begrudge your weakness. Don't bath in your insufficiency. Embrace your weakness so that the power of Jesus may rest upon you to reveal God's surpassing greatness. Be encouraged by the fact that God intends to use you, insecurities, weaknesses & all, for His glory.
