Daily Scripture 2016.08.23
1 Peter 5:7-9 "7 Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. 8 Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 9 Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings."
As disciples we all know the power of prayer. We're familiar with it's power (and how it's "saved" us), and the impact when we don't make use of it. We even turn to things to help with our anxiety: food, exercise, tv, relaxation or breathing techniques, therapy... And within reason, those things aren't bad. But as disciples, God wants us to reach out to Him, He wants us to burden Him with our problems. Even when we "walk away" from prayer, He is always there, waiting for us because He loves us so much.
The devil wants to minimize the power of prayer, and we all listen from time to time. This doesn't just affect me, or you, but all disciples because, in our hearts, "Jesus is Lord", and that makes us targets! How much more do we need God now?
