Daily Scripture 2016.09.24
Luke 13:10-13 10On a Sabbath Jesus was teaching in one of the synagogues, 11 and a woman was there who had been crippled by a spirit for eighteen years. She was bent over and could not straighten up at all. 12 When Jesus saw her, he called her forward and said to her, "Woman, you are set free from your infirmity." 13 Then he put his hands on her, and immediately she straightened up and praised God.
This is a common scripture, used to describe God's love & healing power. But looking past the "physical aspect" of the woman's illness, we are all like her - we all were bent over, not able to look up to God, much less see what's in front of us. But the Lord had cured us of that, and we are now "straightened up and prais[ing] God".
But there are things that we all struggle with, that still cripple our relationship with God. Insecurities, emotional scars, mental baggage, dysfunctional families... These things have us bent over, taking our focus away from God.
Jesus was able to free the crippled woman from her ailment, proving His power over all things. And He can heal the "demons" in our hearts & heads. But more importantly than having faith in Him, we need to want to be healed. We need to fight against our demons, otherwise we are simply "inviting them back in". We must fight and praise God for what He has done, does, and will do for His people.
