#ExcitedForFriend 2018.01.19

I had the pleasure of catching up with a friend of mine last night, and it was refreshing! Now, forget the fact that we weren't suppose to be friends (and how God said no to that) but she has become a good friend with whom i've learned a bit from.

One thing that we have in common are the personal demons that we've carried in our lives - Her with hers "now" and my demons that I've recently learn to overcome. It's refreshing because, listening to her and her current struggles, she's on an incredible ride! Based on my experience, God is showing her things that seem overwhelming, but will help us through it and come out on top at the end. I am excited for her for this!

What I love is how incredible life is... But how we have a hard time seeing that because of our demons (negative thoughts). We are blessed to have a relationship with God, and yet, at times, the difficulty to smile or be sincerely happy, is overwhelming.

And it served as great material for today's blog.

Above all else, guard your heart,
for everything you do flows from it.

Proverbs 4:23

As much as we may vehemently deny it, we are a product of our upbringing & life's experiences, and we carry more baggage than an airplane. Whether we like it or not, we are broken. And that's not necessarily a bad thing - it's humbling but only when we sincerely admit it.

And that''s why King Solomon's advice to his son's are amazing - it isn't about how to handle money, handling royal matters, or job responsibilities... but about the value of controlling our thoughts, because they determine how we feel & live.

We all want happy lives and yet most of us do little to how we each poison our chances of that. When disappointment crushes our dreams, when people hurt us, or when problems seem overwhelming, it is easy to get caught up in the flow of negative thinking. And when we think negative thoughts, we develop negative feelings, and leads us to believing that life is negative overall. And let's not forget that all of this develops a habitual reaction, strengthening & supporting our unhappiness.

When we sincerely look at ourselves, when our thoughts are running (or ruining, you decide) our lives, we need to bow our heads & admit to Jesus that we need His help to regain our focus on what is truly necessary in living a happy life, and disregarding the rest (or begin to try to). God, our Father, wants us to be happy, is sad because we're not, and will do everything to help us work through it. We need to reaffirm our grip on His Truths will stand, and because the negative things we're stuck with, have no validity.

I thank God for helping me through some tumultuous times, when I was working through "negative thoughts". And although, I may never be "cured', I have replaced the time spent on such things, the energy & emotion that support unhappiness, and have redirected it to Him - He is the reason for happiness.

And that's why I feel excitement for a friend, when they share about what they're learning and how difficult it may be. I'm encouraged because it reminds me of what I've learned, and how, in the end, it all revolves around God. And at the end of the lesson, how much happier and incredible we'll all be... because of Him.
