Learning to Wait [part 1] 2016.10.19

We live in an instant world - Everything needs to be done NOW! From coffee to drive-thru, we live in a society where we expect things quickly. The world is trained to dislike waiting. Do you know anyone who likes to wait? It's difficult and at times, can test our faith. Desires, prayers that we've been praying, and news that we're waiting to hear, can tempt us to be impatient, discouraged, worry, or even wonder if God truly cares.

We know that God's teaching us much when we wait - patience, perseverance and endurance. The effort we put into waiting develops our faith & draws us closer to God. (see a previous post about this)... BUT WHAT DO I DO WHILE I WAITTTTTT-TUH?!??!!??!???

But as for me, I watch in hope for the Lord,
I wait for God my Savior; my God will hear me.
Micah 7:7
God allowed His Son to be crucified for our salvation... How much more does He need to prove that He's on our side, protecting & blessing us? If we knew what He knew, we'd know how committed He is in giving us everything we would ask for.

In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning
I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly.
Psalm 5:3
We wait expectantly, but also must be prepared for the unexpected. How often are prayers answered, but in far different ways than you would've anticipated? God knows that the only way to do what He & we desire, involves a bit of discomfort on our part.

Growing in humility involves doing away with pride. (repeat that sentence again) As covered in a previous post, learning to truly love everyone, like Jesus did, requires us to say no to our selfish ambition, wanting our own way, and most definitely, putting ourselves first. Patience involves waiting.

5I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits, and in his word I put my hope.
6I wait for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning,
more than watchmen wait for the morning.
Psalm 130:5-6
We can be tempted to put our hope into things that may disappoint us in the end: Man, theory, ... anything. But by putting hope in God, we can wait with confidence & know that we won't be let down. God allows us to experience disappointments in life to teach us that nothing else will provide us like God's foundation does. We know how our story through Him ends - We win! He has never let us down in the past.
