#SinVsGod 2017.08.17
God is an amazing Father, one who loves, guides & protects us... better than anyone\thing can\has throughout all of history. He loves us so much that He has given us everything in our lives, provides for us, and hurts the people who try to hurt us. His love for us is that intense...
Any yet, does our worship of Him reflect that? Even come close to that? When we walk into church, do we have the mentality of "ok God... i'm here today. let's get this started so it can finish that much sooner" or "Wow... God, I am here FOR YOU!! THANK YOU!!"
And yet, with all of this said, why is it so hard to stay committed to God? This isn't about choosing to sin, but choosing sin over God. it's not about resisting but choosing Him over temptation.
Sin is this idea that there is something better, only to be let down in the end.
16Don’t be deceived, my dear brothers and sisters. 17Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. 18He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created.
James 1:16-18 |
We are a people who are easy to cast away our own responsibility and offer excuses in it's place. We may not say that it's God's fault directly... but if we don't start with ourselves, we're blaming God. Look at James 1:13-14
13When tempted, no one should say, "God is tempting me." For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; 14but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed.
James 1:13-14 |
When we are tempted to sin, the Bible tells us not to blame God. Adam & Eve did it, we do it... But the bible says, "don't you dare blame God!" The verb used here is similar to a command... "Don't you dare blame God!" Remember the love that He has for us, each & every day, as I had shared earlier... He loves us so much that He protects us.
The problem is, when sin comes, we become so focused upon the temptation, and we lose sight of God. But this is when we should be running to God.
Think of temptation like being pregnant... We are excited and looking forward to the day when we can spend it with our baby, only for the baby to be stillborn. We have left God for a temptation that didn't turn out the way it was supposed to be. We were fooled from the beginning, and all that's left is us wondering why we left God for
Note: The illustration of "the stillborn" was to demonstrate the disappointment we feel of not getting this great gift, when we were "promised" it. It does not reflect anything on people who have lost their children in situations like this. "Being pregnant" or stillborns aren't a temptation.
Why did we fall for the bait?
The one thing that we need to tattoo upon our soul, is that "God is better".
- Money burns.
- People who inspire sexual desire, become old & saggy.
- Even the most exquisite food, spoils.
We make mistakes and mess up.
If our lives don't reflect that, then start there... because it should. And yet, God sacrificed His Son for us, despite our constant failures & letting Him down. God wants that relationship with us, and yet we don't deserve it!! BUT THAT DOESN'T STOP HIM!! Take that into your heart and hold onto that thought throughout today.
